Passenger Research in Live Transport Settings

Live environments demand flexible fieldwork and strong operational control.

Methodology

Face-to-face interviewing (with QR follow-up)

Study Overview

Passenger research was conducted to capture views on rail ticketing, focusing on people beginning and ending journeys at specified stations. A target of 1,200 interviews was set; 1,458 were achieved over a 3.5-week period, exceeding requirements.

How We Delivered

Working on active rail services introduced challenges such as delays and cancellations. These were managed through close monitoring of live schedules, frequent communication with interviewers, and rapid adjustment of shifts and locations. To maximise participation, passengers were also offered the option to complete the survey later via QR code. This blended approach ensured coverage remained strong despite operational disruption.
